SD County Fair: Asian Pacific Islander Festival

This summerĀ for the San Diego County Fair, the SD API Coalition Youth Network was invited to the Asian Pacific Islander Festival to foster cultural celebration and youth engagement. In a vibrant venue hosting other talented organizations, we brought art and crafts to this exciting showcase.
One of our activities was a giant map encouraging visitors to add a pin indicting the origin of their ethnicity. The youth leaders loved getting to know community members and witnessing the diversity of our interactions.
Besides the map, we hosted arts activities including origami, lantern making, and fan painting. I enjoyed live painting zodiac animals for fairgoers and sharing the stories behind these animals. My favorite part was getting crafty with the youth, whether that meant helping to create fans, paint dragons, or adding color to many zodiac mice. It was inspiring to see them have so much fun!
